Hello, sweet friends! I trust you are having a good week and always remember how blessed we are. No matter what God brings into our lives, He is always with us.
Several weeks ago, a beloved friend breathed his last and is now with the Lord. He was a former pastor and a very dear friend...and a mentor and friend to my husband. His dear wife held a women's Bible study on Thursdays, and we had some precious times together. They were such dear friends, and we used to meet them after church for lunch each Sunday. We had such sweet times of fellowship...times we now cherish in our memories. We are so thankful to God for such a godly couple, and now we pray for his dear wife and know that her ultimate comfort is in knowing that he is no longer suffering and is now in the presence of the Lord.
We went to his memorial service and spent several days on the west coast of Florida, and I was able to relax a bit and try out my colored pencils. I don't have a lot of experience using pencils, so it was a fun time...but I definitely need more practice. I stamped the tulip with Antique Linen Distress Ink on X-Press It Blending Card and used only pencils, but I will definitely use other paper on my next project with pencils. Several months ago I was blessed to win the entire Stamp Simply spring release, and what a surprise! I am so thankful, and I know I will use these sets a lot. So here's my first card using the Get Well Tulip set. I did no-line coloring, used my MISTI to stamp the sentiment from the Thinking of You Rose set, used a decorative die (that I popped), matted it, and added pearls in the corners.
What a difference it made to attend this memorial service to celebrate his life, as we heard his family and friends speak of how he influenced their lives. What a legacy he has left. We are certain that our brother is enjoying being in the presence of the Lord and is no longer suffering, and we do not sorrow as others do. While we mourn his loss, we have the assurance that we will be reunited with him in the presence of our Lord Jesus...that will be our ultimate joy!
But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers,
about those who are asleep,
that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.

My deepest condolences, Cheryl. But we know all of heaven rejoices to receive the saints. Praise God! Love your colored pencil work. I'm sure it is so much different than working with markers. I find that adding a little dark brown in the end helps with deep shading and color variation, but I have so much more to learn and practice! Biggest hugs, Autumn

The coloring is lovely in depth - you definitely have a gift for coloring no matter the medium! I love the background die, it adds to the garden look. TFS!

I love the depth you've created with the pencils. Bristol paper is really nice for working with the pencils as it has a lot of "tooth". You've done a beautiful job with the Express It. It's truly difficult to build layers with such a "sleek" surfaced paper so you should feel very proud of this beauty and the depth you were able to achieve!!! Cheryl, I'm sorry to hear you've lost such a good friend. I know you loved him as much as family, just as I feel about many of my friends. Memorial services should always have a bit of joy in them as we remember and celebrate a beautiful life. You did such a lovely job with your pencils here, and with no-line coloring! Beautifully matted. Gentle and precious. I haven't had much luck using pencils on X-Press It, either. Not enough tooth. Live and learn. Congratulations on your win!

Oh Cheryl, I am so sorry for the loss of your dear friend and Pastor. It is so hard for us because we miss our dear friends and family but such a blessed feeling to know all the overwhelming joy they are experiencing being with our Lord.

Sweet child of God, your card so reflects the deep and loving feelings you and Walt had for your dear pastor/friend and mentor. Knowing that he suffers no more and knowing that he is in the arms of our Lord is comforting. So glad you got to use your new pencils. Although u say you need more practice, I would have to disagree with you: your coloring is wonderful and your shading brings a certain depth that causes your image to look truly life like. I do enjoy your posts both for your cards and for you comforting words. My dear sister has been very sick and has a rare cancer diagnosis. This is so beautiful! I love the way you colored the leaves. I can't remember if I first saw this on instagram? but the leaves are what attracted me first! So sorry for your loss...those that touch us deeply leave many fingerprints on our hearts and a hole in our heat when they depart. Thankful to read much was learned which can in turn be shared with others. Legacy is what it is all about and so thankful that amidst the pain of loss there can be great comfort in knowing they have heard "well done my good and faithful servant".
