Planting A Tree

Our Daily Bread Designs, ODBDSLC215, Autumn Tree, CherylQuilts, Designed by Cheryl Scrivens

This is Week Two of our Shining the Light Anything Goes with ODBD Challenge.

You've heard the old saying, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away," right? Well, they won't necessarily keep the doctor away, but they are healthy to eat...and delicious! Since October is a big month for harvesting apples in many places in the United States, I decided to use Autumn Tree and enjoyed coloring it. I kept it simple by matting it with green with no piercing – oh my! And isn't this a wonderful sentiment? A tree planted will grow and give beauty, shade, and fruit for years to come – often for many future generations. Once again I am delighted that this is a very mailable card!

When planting a tree, we often don't always think about how many people in future years will enjoy a tree we plant. What an extra special gift.

This tree also reminds me of Psalm 1, where it speaks of delighting in God's law and meditating on it day and night. May we bear the fruit of the Spirit dwelling on and appropriating His Word in our hearts and lives – love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).

He is like a tree planted by streams of water
that yield its fruit in its season,
and its leaf does not wither.
In all that he does, he prospers.
Psalm 1:3

What a beautiful fall stamp and so beautifully colored, Cheryl! Sometimes it's hard to leave off all the extras, but it feels good to be able to just slip it in an envelope and mail it. An image so complete doesn't need anything to make it more beautiful. So true, the sentiment, too. I was at a house the other day that was built in the '50s, but it had a huge, magnificent maple tree in the front yard that must have been planted there years before the house was built. I stood there for the longest time reflecting on the lives that must have been lived around that tree and marvelling at what a blessing the planter gave the generations that followed. I was very moved.

This is beautiful Cheryl. I love this image and it is on my wish list. Wonderful post too, when I was a child every one had fruit trees in their yards, apple trees, pear, peach, and nut trees. We never went hungry. Now, there all gone

What wonderful coloring Cheryl! Your CAS design is perfect for this lovely image. We live on an old homestead that's been in the family just short of 100 years. There are majestic old oaks and pecan orchards that have been here forever. If they could talk, what tales they would tell of all the lives that have been lived out here. Thank you for your wonderful devotional. May we all be producing more fruit of the spirit. This world needs it so. Hugs!
