Poinsettia Wreath

Our Daily Bread Designs, ODBDSLC218, Poinsettia Wreath, Poinsettia Wreath dies, Mini Tag Sentiments, Mini Tags dies, Fancy Foliage dies, Doily dies, CherylQuilts, Designed by Cheryl Scrivens

This is Week One of our Shining the Light Christmas with ODBD.

For this week's challenge, I chose the Poinsettia Wreath with matching Poinsettia Wreath dies. This is a lovely image to color, and then I gave it some dimension with my Empressor tool. I used a piece of stripped designer paper matted with red for my background and then added another embossed layer and popped my wreath on it. Of course, each layer was paper pierced! With my ribbon I added a "sprig" from Fancy Foliage dies and used the new Mini Tag Sentiments and the Mini Tags dies for my "Merry Christmas" sentiment. My final touch was to add the sweet little "buttons" from the Doily dies threaded with some DMC floss.

This past Sunday was the start of the Advent season. Traditionally, the Advent wreath is constructed of evergreens to represent everlasting life through Jesus, and the circulate shape represents God, Who has no beginning nor end. As we light the candles of Advent wreaths at our churches, we anticipate the celebration of the birth of Jesus.

The first candle is white and is the candle of hope, as we prepare our hearts and minds for the coming of God's Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ.

The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light;
those who lived in a land of deep darkness
-- on them light has shined.
Isaiah 9:2

It's a beautiful time of year, but it's a time for us to stop and consider the real meaning and significance of Christmas. May the Lord draw you and your family closer to Himself during this Advent season.

Shhh... don't tell the other gals this but your coloring of this wreath is the most amazing I've seen. I love how you added dimension - it really does look as if it has a round surface to the touch. And thank you for your thoughts - I had learned of Advent candles but not the meaning of the wreath. I love wreaths. I do pray that the kids learn each year and feel in their hearts the true meaning and reason of Christmas and not just love the presents!

I go to church with my husband he is Lutheran and of course they celebrate Advent too. I was born and raised Baptist and I really don't know what Advent was, since they do things differently! My, oh, my, Cheryl! I swoon whenever I see you've colored up this wreath! Beautiful! The shaping you gave it is evident at a glance. I love that! The stripes and the "buttons" give it a real homey feel, too. It really is my favorite kind of Christmas card.

Cheryl, this is just gorgeous! You've painted it to perfection, there is so much dimension in your wreath, I feel as if I could reach out and touch it, I smell the scent of pine . . . hmmmmm!! And your explanation of the Advent is wonderfully informative. Your layers are perfection, I've got to start using my perfect layers tool instead of my paper cutter. No matter how hard I try, my layers are always off by a smidgeon. What is your Embosser Tool? It surely was an asset with embossing the wreath, as well as your use of light and shadow to create a spectacularly realistic wreath. Hugs sweet friend!!!

Oh Cheryl I feel like I could reach out and fluff the fronds of that wreath. The dimension you added looks spectacular! The little details you added with the buttons, sprig, and tiny tag just pull it all together for a wonderful festive card. Hope all is well with you my friend. You're in my prayers daily. Hugs!

What a gorgeous, gorgeous card!!
You certainly have a gift and talent, Cheryl.
Your message to us was well said, thank you.
This time of year is beautiful as we focus on the birth of our Savior, and the love God has for us. People seem softer during the Christmas holiday, therefor allowing the Spirit to touch and reach lost souls.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if the focus on Crust was strong every day and not just during Christmas?
Praising my Jesus!
Love to you, Debbie
